Hands-on Experience in International Development Projects

Indigenous team which constructed the path in the rain forestAfter completing my master’s degree in International Development Studies, I was looking for a position as an International Development worker. It soon dawned on me that finding a paid position, particularly one in the field, was not easy. I have arrived in the land of the Masai tribe, once semi-nomadic throughout Kenya and Northern Tanzania and famous for their success as warriors and their vast herds of cattle.

Volunteering: What’s In It For Me?

Can anyone say that they got involved in volunteering for completely altruistic reasons? Doesn’t everyone want to get something out of it, however small and seemingly insignificant? Perhaps the knowledge that you’re doing your bit to help someone you believe needs and thoroughly deserves it is enough. But what you’re gaining from volunteering is something that could greatly benefit you now – and in the future, especially where your employment’s concerned.
